From what age can you get pierced?
Ex Altera pauses to consider Belgian legislation and guidelines. These indicate since 2017 that if you are NOT 18, you must always have permission from a parent or responsible person.
4 - 12 jaar
From 4 to 12 years old, you can go to Ex Altera for earrings (lobe). We shoot and pierce these holes from the age of 4, as the earlobe is then 80% formed. Ideally, this is 6 years. Your ear continues to grow until the age of 70. Your auricle can grow another 1 cm.
If you pierce before the age of 4, this can result in migration, tearing or a change of location.
Children as young as 4 can already clearly indicate that they want earrings. This is important to me.
12 -15 jaar
We place the most common cartilage piercing, the helix, from the age of 12. Cartilage piercings need more time to heal. We therefore advise a 12 or 13-year-old to start with this. You should be able to take responsibility for letting this piercing heal yourself.
From the age of 14, we pierce the most common ear piercings and nose piercings. Some of these crack piercings require a lot of care and patience. Look at a daith, smoke or industrial. The nose piercing is one of the more easy-healing piercings.
What about school? Not all schools accept piercings. Read the regulations on it. You may be required to tape them off or take them off. Taping off piercings can cause difficulties in healing.
Vanaf 16 jaar
We only put facial and body piercings from the age of 16 and always like all the previous ones with the consent of the parent or representative. We consider tongue, lip, eyebrow, navel, dermal and surfaces.
Why a navel piercing from the age of 16?
This is mainly anatomically determined. Your body must be sufficiently developed. As you grow, so does your navel. Setting this piercing younger than 16 may result in migration or outgrowth. Exceptionally and depending on anatomy, we pierce under 16.
What about school?
Schools still have rules around visible piercings. From the age of 16, you often have more freedom in this. Be sure to consult the regulations.
18 +
Piercing of the genitals or nipples in minors under 18 years of age is prohibited.
If the parent or legal representative gives consent, this may still NOT be carried out.
